Magicka Review

"Magicka is an action-adventure game set in the fantasy world of Midgård, where elemental magic rules the land, goblins and trolls are perfectly harmless – well, perhaps not entirely, and all the villagers are wise-cracking smartalecks."

"In your travels you will fight your way through 13 levels, each more fiendish than the last. You shall draw upon the aid of magickal spells, freely combined from the eight elements. As you progress, you will learn the delicate art of annihilating your enemies with the awesome powers of ancient Magicks. As if that’s not enough, you can also test your skills in the various challenge modes, and duel your friends (or enemies) in player vs player battle mode.
But enough talk! Time to get your robe on!"

These are the beginning words for an adventure full of fun and bloody messes!
You get a quick tutorial (10 minutes long) and you'll know how to play this freaking hilarious game. At first you'll acknowledge 8 different elements are good to go. "8 elements? Not much if you'll ask me." Wrong! You can combine each of these elements with the other, there are restrictions but not too many. You have 5 slots for your next cast and you can combine the elements in these slots, your decision will alter the next cast.
Some combinations are really powerful and you'll have to find them through your adventure. Every spell has 3-4 different actions if you use another button-combination (mouse left click, mouse right click, shift, control etc.). You can play with up to four of your friends at the same time, in the adventure mode, challenge mode or PvP. An important thing to know is, that you can hurt yourself with your own casts, if used wrong. More player, more danger, more fun :)

The adventure mode lasts 4-7 hours and has a great replayability if you do it with your friends, you can hunt for achievements, secrets and new spellcasts. This game costs 9,99€ and is worth every cent of it :)

  13. Kind of a retro look, but the gameplay seems like it'd be a lot of fun. I'd never heard of this game -- where did you run across it?
